London Edinburgh London powerbank - tested!

London Edinburgh London 2025 will feature an entirely new way to charge your devices during your ride. Our powerbank rental service provides cheap, safe and reliable power at every control, eliminating dangerous charging through daisychained extension cables.

This is a first for a long-distance for a long-distance cycling event, and many of you are keen to know more about the powerbanks. Here, we share what we have learned about the powerbanks, their specifications, and most importantly, their performance.

Specifications

The powerbank is sleek and black, smaller than a smartphone, weighing around 125 grammes.

On the back are printed the powerbank's specifications. The powerbank has a 5000mAh capacity, with a 5V/2A ouput from its numerouscables and ports.

The powerbank has two cables and two ports. There is a lightning cable as well as a USB-C cable, both photographed below.

Hidden underneath one of the cables is a USB-A port. You can use this to attach your own charging cable. If you have devices that use micro-USB, you will need a USB-A to micro-USB cable.

On the side of the powerbank is a USB-C port, for charging the powerbank itself. You cannot charge your own device from this port.

To the side of this port is a small button. This actvates the power indicator on the front of the powerbank - a series of 4 LED lights.

Performance

Fully charged, the powerbank was able to take an iPhone 16 from 16% charge to full charge in a couple of hours. It then had enough power left over to fully charge a pair of half-charged iPods. There was still a bit of capacity left in the powerbank after this. Once depleted the powerbank took about three hours to recharge.

How to order

You can order your powerbank in the rider shop at the bottom of the rider area on the  London Edinburgh London website.

Each powerbank costs £13, plus a returnable £15 deposit. When you have used the battery, you can swap it for a fully charged replacement at any control, free of charge.
